Solana is a high-performance single-layer blockchain that uses a system called Proof of History (PoH) as a cryptographic timestamping mechanism to enable high throughput. The network is designed for very low-latency and high transaction per second (TPS) capacity, with peak claims of tens of thousands of TPS and block times around 400 milliseconds. The core technical team includes engineers with backgrounds in semiconductor and systems companies such as Qualcomm, bringing hardware and systems-level experience to optimize blockchain performance.
